Kansas Cricket Club

history

Cricket is a very popular game with mass following in countries like India, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, South Africa, and the Caribbean’s. After coming to the US, any individual who has played this game or has been involved with this game, definitely misses playing and watching cricket. This was the reason that a bunch of local cricket enthusiasts came together in 1998 and started playing cricket in Topeka.

Initially it was a few people who got together on the weekends and played some friendly cricket games. The group started by playing “taped tennis ball” cricket at different parks and baseball diamonds. Gradually the word spread and there were more and more people who wanted to be a part of it. Due to this increased interest, in 2004 the players decided to form the Kansas Cricket Club(KCC). The next important thing was to find a place where KCC could play cricket on a permanent and consistent basis. KCC approached the City of Topeka, Parks and Recreations department with its proposal. The Parks and Recreation department helped us identify Ripley Park as one of the facilities where the club could play cricket. Ripley Park is an ideal park to play cricket and the club members instantly decided to make it their home ground. A 74 feet concrete pitch has been laid in the center of the ground and this will serve as the playing surface for cricket. This is the first full-length cricket pitch in the region comprising of Topeka, Lawrence, and Manhattan. It is the only facility in the region where it is possible to play from both ends of the pitch and this is in accordance with the international cricket playing format. KCC is planning to make a few more changes and additions in the future, which will make Ripley Park a fantastic facility to play cricket. KCC also has complete sets of latest cricketing gear, which is available for use by the club members.

Kansas Cricket Club welcomes everyone who is interested in cricket to join the club and support its mission in promoting Cricket in the region.
